Jewels ( from "Miriam's Song" by Donna Nieri )

I traveled the desert looking
You may ask,
"Is this not enough,

all these frivolous
things and such."

And I may say" be
patient with me."

"Can't you see, this is
my second childhood?
I've searched and
searched and it finally
found me."

I am free at last
and become one. The
strings of life are
loosened.

The tarnished gold of
life is polished, to
sparkle as the sun.

Didn't God dress the moon
with a silvery sheen,

the grass in emerald
green,

diamond capped waves of
blue,

stars as ornaments
in the sky,

violets in lavendar
dresses?

Would he not dress me
too, in a gown of
lustrous gems and
a crown of jewels,

for this special day,
to celebrate the
birthday of His child?
